I'm doing some research about petals for my aisle and am going the fresh petal route since they are less expensive then freeze dried & I want white petals anyway, so no worries about stains 🙂

What have ya'll found to be the most affordable place to buy fresh rose petals?

I bought fake rose petals that looked better than real rose petals at Michaels.  They looked gorgeous for the wedding and were cheap especially with the Michael's coupon.

I figured they were the best way to go since flowers tend to wither and crinkle with time and heat.  I used them for the birdcage, not the floor since we were walking down a cobble-stone aisle that looked great without it.

My mom suggested calling up local shops and asking if they have any wilted roses that they would like to get rid of at a discounted price.  I don't need my petals to be perfect so I'm planning on going this route.

I bought 6000 rose petals from fiftyflowers.com for about $150. They have all colors too! My wedding is on Saturday April 17 2010 and I was able to buy way in advance when they were having a sale on them one weekend. They are being delivered the thursday before the wedding. Sign up for their email alerts and they will tell you when they are having a sale.

Talk to your florist and ask if they have day-old petals available. Usually those come from roses that are past their selling prime but otherwise there's nothing wrong with them. Some florists will give you a huge bag for free and others barely charge anything but you won't know till you ask.

The problem with silk petals is that you can't use them around candles (silks are flammable) or outdoors (silks are not biodegradable), whereas there is no issue at all in either of those situations with real petals. As far as staining, again there is no issue with real petals unless they have been dyed because you have to violently grind a petal to get color transfer onto anything and simply walking on them or brushing them against fabric is not enough to do anything of the sort.

Take in account that putting out the fresh rose petals should be put out at the very last moment.  If you decorate with them the night before they will wilt.

So many beautiful colors to choose from!

I would use FiftyFlowers! I ordered 6,000 for our 8/22 wedding! For $140 I couldn't find a better price! I was prepared to buy 24,000 BUT unfortunately my garden ceremony venue wouldn't have that!

I'm a florist and when someone requests rose petals I grab some rose and rip the heads off. You can do this with any rose, so hit the grocery store/sam's/costco and pick some up before hand. You can break the heads off and seperate the petals days before the wedding as long as you keep them in a container in the fridge. If you are DIYing your flowers, just keep the petals that you cull as you clen up the flowers too. I normaly sell the equivelant of 3-4 rose and have been told that is enough to do a very light layer on a bed.

Check out The Grower's Box http://www.growersbox.com/.  I got a bunch of Rose Petals with my wedding in a box wedding flowers package.  I then ordered a $135 box of rose petals to add to my order.

I called in and apoke with Jonathan who was SUPER helpful.  He even gave me a coupon code for 5% off: secretbride2010
